Q:Could you still use the Deep Conditioners with Gentle/Moisture Boosting Proteins even if your hair is quite healthy ?

Anonymous

Absolutely.  Deep Conditioners help you to maintain your hair’s protein/moisture balance between washes.  Deep Conditioners with Moisture Boosting Proteins are my conditioner of choice.

Happy Hair Growing,
Kim :)

Q:Is it bad that I'm 18 years old, in college, and my mom still washes, relaxes, blow-drys and flat irons my hair? She insists that she doesn't want it to get as damaged as it did when I was going to stylists and that with the length (BSL) and thickness it would be difficult for me to take it on myself. I am looking forward to getting into my own regimen so that I can avoid breakage and that I can build up length but what can I definitely do on my own without damaging my hair? Thank You!!

Anonymous

If she’s willing to do it and you like the way it comes out…I don’t see anything wrong with it.  I mean, if my mom could (and wanted to) do my hair, I’d be all over that, lol.  But if you want to do your own hair, that’s certainly something you can work on doing.  It does take time to learn how to do your own hair, but with practice and patience I’m sure you’ll eventually get the hang of it. Your first source should be your mom because your current regimen has gotten you to thick BSL hair.  For most of us, finding a hair regimen that works for our hair is the hardest part of being on a hair journey, so for you to have a basic regimen in place puts you ahead of the game.  Next I would just gradually learn one element of your wash day routine at a time.  Start with shampooing, then learn to detangle, then learn to blow dry and so on.  Once you’ve got it all down you can start expanding upon your hair regimen based upon what your hair needs.  I hope this helps.

Happy Hair Growing,
Kim

Old vs. New: Mizani Phormula-7 Neutralizing and Chelating Shampoo

Of course as my luck would have it, as soon as I declare a product that has been sitting in my stash for months a staple… they switch things up on me.  I suppose I should be grateful that it’s just the ingredients that have changed and it has not been discontinued, but it still annoys me.  I’ve tried it twice now (for both of the roller set tutorials that I filmed) and I’m ready to share my thoughts. My April Update — Rollersetting

The month of April just flew by but I did manage to get three sets in this month and I’m starting to get better at styling them.  The styling technique that has made all the difference: Pin Curls!  Add 4 to 6 pin curls immediately after removing the rollers, tie the hair down with a scarf and viola!  The last picture displays the results from that technique — Check me out! :)  I may do a tutorial if I can recreate this several more times.  For more details and pictures of my April rollersets Click here
